Who’s Lazy Mr. President?!

The United States has one of the highest corporate tax rates on the planet.  At the same time, Obama punted the decision on the XL Keystone Pipeline until AFTER the next election, killing 20,000 jobs.  The banks, which are full of money are refusing to give out loans to small businesses and entrepreneurs and somehow that translate into Americans being lazy!!!  Outrageous!

It was September of this year, you may recall, when he said that Americans were soft.  I wonder which golf course he was playing when that little gem entered his mind.  This from a man, who spends all kinds of time in Martha’s Vineyard, Hawaii, New York City, and traveling Europe in “much-needed vacations.”  When he does come up with an idea, it always involves billions of dollars paid by those same people he just called lazy.

Well Mr. President, if we were so lazy how is it you have the money to do the traveling?  Additionally, who paid for that TARP bailout which has been an absolute failure.  I’m curious who you think paid for the Solyndra debacle.

For every finger you point at the American people, there are 3 more pointing back at you.  You have effectively cut off our legs at the knees and then wonder why we can’t walk.  Over regulation of businesses to the point they are choking and closing has chased jobs overseas.  Moratoriums on drilling in the gulf of Mexico for oil has driven businesses to the coast off of Africa.  Allowing the EPA to choose a smelt fish over the agricultural industry has left California with high unemployment, closing farms and higher grocery prices.  But, I guess since the taxpayers pay for your groceries there at the White House, it means nothing to you.  Furthermore, who pays for the celebrity chefs that you fly into the White House, like Paula Deen?  Those unions that you love so much with their lavish pensions and shameless salaries have rendered us non-competitive with China and India.   When you had to have a very special motorcade car built from scratch, we covered the cost.  All the gas that gets pumped into that monster is paid by us as is the jet fuel for Air Force One so you can travel around places you have lived instead of being at home working.

We also pick up the tab for all the beer you drink trying to convince us that you are just a “regular guy.”  All these golf-course solutions of yours have been nothing but smoke and mirrors.  You are the biggest pathological narcissist that has ever held the office and are so caught up in your self-love you have missed the slow burn anger of the American people.  You are also so caught up in your self-importance to realize that you have alienated yourself from all but the most extremes of your party.  When it comes to insults Mr. President, Americans have long memories.

Keep fiddling Sir, as Rome burns.  Nero may have survived the fire, but he couldn’t survive the fire and the oppression of the Christians combined with the class warfare he began.  A revolution took place among the people and they rose up against him.  Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it.

Obama vs. the Unions (united with the GOP)

There are very few times that the Unions are united with Republicans against the President.  If you are the President and you find that your base and your opposition are united against you, then perhaps you need to examine your strategy.  Perhaps you need to step aside as Lyndon Johnson did in 1968.  Clearly you don’t have the respect of anyone anymore.  But, when you run around preaching about creating jobs and then vanquish 20,000 good paying jobs in one fell swoop, you can expect a backlash.

In an act of supreme idiocy, the President has put off making a decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline until 2013 after the election.  This is a 1,7oo mile pipeline from Alaska to the Gulf of Mexico which would substantially reduce our dependence on foreign oil from the Middle East.  It would have created 20,000 jobs.

The unions are furious, “The administration chose to support environmentalists over jobs — job-killers win, American workers lose,” Terry O’Sullivan, president of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, said in a written statement.  Needless to say the Republicans are furious, “By punting on this project, the president has made clear that campaign politics are driving U.S. policy decisions — at the expense of American jobs,” House Speaker John Boehner said. TransCanada is furious and their CEO Russ Girling had this to say about the literal shovel-ready jobs, “If Keystone XL dies, Americans will still wake up the next morning and continue to import 10 million barrels of oil from repressive nations, without the benefit of thousands of jobs and long-term energy security.”

And business leaders through the United States Chamber of Commerce had this to say:

U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue issued the following statement today following the announcement by the State Department to delay a decision on the Keystone XL pipeline:

“I would like to express our strong disappointment with today’s news that the Administration intends to further delay a decision on the Keystone XL Pipeline. In spite of extensive and positive studies from the State Department, this is clearly a political decision and everyone knows it. Unfortunately, it will immediately cost more than 20,000 Americans an opportunity to get a job working on the pipeline and hundreds of thousands more jobs in the future.

“Politics has trumped jobs in this decision and we can only wonder if the Administration’s delay will cause Canada to turn their pipeline west and ship their energy and American jobs elsewhere.

“The Keystone XL Pipeline has undergone a lengthy and thorough review process in which the State Department itself concluded that the proposed route was the best of the thirteen routes considered. The decision to delay the pipeline permit sends a signal to all Americans that even in the face of sustained high unemployment and instability overseas, jobs and energy security are not a priority.”

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.

In a nutshell the only people who are happy right now are the Environmentalists and a smattering of Hollywood elite like Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Leonardo DiCaprio.  The last time I paid attention both of them had jobs and substantial wealth.  Ms. Louis- Dreyfus is worth $3 BILLION dollars.  That’s not a typo nor a joke.  She comes from wealth and has done very well for herself.  Mr. DiCaprio is worth a modest $200 million dollars by Louis-Dreyfus standards.  These are the people who made the decision for Obama by posting videos and speaking out.  He needs their money for his re-election.  We didn’t see their names on the ballot back in 2008 but they sure are running things now.  I would love to know how many jobs THEY have created!!!!

Currently in third position in the GOP race, Newt Gingrich immediately came out and said, “”Only days after we learned that at least 9 percent of Americans were unemployed for the 30th straight month, the president has made a decision that will only prolong this suffering,”  Threatening to make the pipeline a wedge issue in 2012, he vowed to “approve this project on the first day of my administration in 2013.”

That works for me!!

Obama’s Final Nail

Since this summer, the so-called Recovery Summer, the Obama administration has tripped, stumbled and fell right on its face.  Operation Gunrunner, Operation Fast & Furious, Solyndra, the Libyan debacle, invading Uganda, and now a hammer can be heard hammering in the final nail.  Obama has had to come out and admit that a major point of his healthcare plan is so flawed that it won’t work no matter how many different ways the numbers are manipulated.

At stake is the CLASS Act, a major new program intended to provide affordable long-term care insurance. Last Friday, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said the administration would not proceed with the plan because she has been unable to find a way to make the program financially solvent.

Late Senator Ted Kennedy had made this a primary priority.  In theory, it was a voluntary insurance plan that would be self-sustaining and open to all working adults.  No age requirements were added nor were health certificates.  However, it did required large numbers of healthy people signing up in their working years.  They would pay a monthly premium during their careers and when needed they would get a cash benefit of $50 a day.  That money could go for home services or help defray the cost of nursing home bills.

But a central design flaw dogged CLASS. Unless large numbers of healthy people willingly sign up during their working years, soaring premiums driven by the needs of disabled beneficiaries would destabilize it, eventually requiring a taxpayer bailout.

Now that it has been made clear that it is impossible to run this program, why in the world has the administration rejected repealing this provision?  This has created much confusion inside the beltway.  “I feel like somebody just called me about how to do really good pet care after they shot my dog,” said Larry Minnix, president of LeadingAge, a trade group representing non-profit nursing homes, which are strong supporters of CLASS.  By keeping this open, the CBO has no option other than raising the debt of Obama’s healthcare plan.

The only reason for keeping it structurally “alive” is to not alienate the elderly voters.  If Obama acknowledges this part is a failure, then the rest of the healthcare plan is open for rigorous scrutiny that it may not survive.  AARP, who has been moving decidedly left, can damage Obama’s re-election campaign with just one article in one of its magazines.  And since the seniors are the ones to lose if CLASS is cut, they can easily take their endorsement elsewhere.

This is another example of trying to make something look really good in a hurry so your base will “love” you.  However, as we know “haste makes waste” and that has certainly been true of Solydra, Operation Fast & Furious and now CLASS.  Obama so desperately wanted to prove that he was capable of leading the nation and creating jobs that he never bothered to see the consequences of all these little Potemkin ideas.  And as the reality of his myopia is becoming clear, voters are considering everything his says to be suspect.  There will be a “recovery summer.”  It will be the Summer of 2012 when all of us are working together to clean up this mess and rebuild our nation.  Get ready to roll up your sleeves, there will be A LOT of work to be done.

If you have asthma stop ruining the environment

Everyday when I wake up and get a cup of coffee, I take some time and peruse the news.  Lately there has been no shortage of absurdities.  In addition to putting big weapons in the hands of drug cartels, shutting down medical marijuana to the sick and making fake green employers (Solyndra), the Obama administration is now pulling all the over-the-counter medication for asthmatics.

This maneuver will force asthmatics to purchase medication through prescription only which is considerably more expensive.  When you factor in the cost of going to the doctors on a regular basis to get your refills the costs really begins to soar.  Perhaps this is how Obama intends to get everyone on ObamaCare.  If we can no longer access OTC’s and we cannot afford to see a regular doctor monthly plus trying to afford the prescription inhalers, then we have little choice but to get on the program for socialized medicine.

Speaking as someone who does have asthma, I find this appalling.  Asthmatic attacks have  the potential to be fatal if medication or medical attention are not administered in time.  So, the administration is deliberating denying access to affordable emergency medication under the rationalization of “saving the environment.”  At issue is the use of CFC’s (Chloroflourocarbons) as the propellant to get the medication into the lungs quickly.   Asthmatic inhalers are the latest intrusion by the United Nations.  Obama has capitulated to International pressures trying to “protect the earth.”  Truthfully, the science regarding global warming is iffy at best.  I believe in climate change, but as a trained scientist, I don’t subscribe to this notion that humans are causing global warming.  It’s been the biggest scam ever thought of and has made people like Al Gore very rich men.  The amount of CFC’s that are produced by these life saving inhalers is an insignificant amount when compared to a very active volcano.  In fact, all of our emissions are insignificant when compared to nature itself.  And you can’t control nature.

Politicians who bow to the demands of the world’s climate alarmists have long sought various means of reducing anthropogenic CO2 emissions. To date, the measures they have proposed have been rather mundane, focusing primarily on reducing emissions associated with one’s household activities and transportation habits. For example, we have been encouraged to replace our incandescent light bulbs with more energy efficient ones. We’ve also been asked to participate in municipal recycling programs, to drive less, to car pool or to utilize public transportation.

As the government has intruded on all of our lives, why not push for mandated healthcare in the name of the environment.  In other words, we can’t destroy the environment so you will have to get some kind of insurance if you want to live.  This is completely ludicrous and I am so tired of doing what the rest of the world wants so they will like us.  I don’t care if France or Indonesia or Norway like us.  They sure like our money and they sure like our military support.  It’s time we took our sovereignty back and began worrying about our own citizens.

Of course, this environmental balderdash might just be one be cover up for big pharma giving massive political donations to Obama’s re-election campaign.  There is much more profit in asthmatics using prescription meds rather than OTC’s.   Whatever Obama’s motivation is clearly it is not in the best interest of Americans.

The new rules by the FDA will have no effect on jobs, but will wind up being very costly to many of the low-income folks who rely on OTC inhalers to treat their Asthma.

Is this really the time to force poor Americans to stop treating their symptoms if a prescription and doctor visit are beyond their reach when a cheap and safe OTC alternative is widely available?  This rule will result in a reduced quality of life for many working class Americans.  I know people who suffer from moderate Asthma but cannot afford regular doctors visits and prescription medication.  I suppose the only solution for them will be to stop living so much.

As I have been watching and reading the news today, I have noticed that there are very few segments on this story.  It would seem the mainstream media is putting this on the back burner or it is just getting buried with the other scandals that are developing.  So, I am hoping my readers will pass along this link and get the information out.  This is an outrage and needs to be told.  We need to put the pressure on this administration to stop this kind of nonsense.

Operation Wide Receiver vs. Operation Fast and Furious

Two wrongs don’t make a right, learn from other’s mistakes and don’t point fingers when you are in trouble are the mantras that most people hear from their moms.  The Obama administration has broken all three of those in the ongoing scandal of Operation Fast and Furious (OFF).

In 2006-2007 the ATF devised Operation Wide Receiver while Bush was in office.  The purpose was to track illegal weapons into Mexico and into the hands of the drug cartels.  However, the guns all were fitted with transmitters for tracking.  The amount of guns allowed to “walk” into Mexico were a quarter of the size of OFF.  Only 450 were utilized and it was managed out of the Tucson office.  However, like  OFF, it was a failure also.  The cartels figured out how to fool the trackers and sometimes when the trackers were placed in the guns they were damaged.  This was a very bad idea and it certainly didn’t achieve the results they were anticipating.

Courtesy of Jim Shepherd at The Outdoor Wire, and Bob Owens at Pajamas Media, here are the facts that the media is not releasing about Operation Wide Receiver

  •  Wide Receiver was less than one-quarter the size of Fast and Furious, involving about 500 guns.  About 450 guns made it across the border into Mexico.  Not only was Fast and Furious much larger, but it was only one of several gun walking operations launched by the Obama Administration.  In fact, intrepid CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson says she has “found allegations of gun walking in at least 10 cities in five states.”
  • Unlike the Obama Administration programs, there actually was a serious attempt made to track the Wide Receiver weapons.  Some of them were fitted with radio tracking devices.  The cartel gun buyers figured out how to defeat the tracking system by driving around in circles, until the tracking planes ran out of fuel and were forced to return to base.  Also, some of the tracking devices were damaged when ATF agents improperly inserted them into the guns.
  • By contrast, one of the signature features of Obama gun walking is that absolutely no effort to track the guns was ever in place.  ATF agents have testified they were expressly ordered to stand down when they tried to follow the cartel straw purchasers.
  • Special Agent In Charge Bill Newell,  That’s right – the same Phoenix ATF supervisor who became famous during the investigation of Fast and Furious was involved with Operation Wide Receiver.  He’s also the ATF agent that originally told Congress that he mentioned gun walking in a roundabout way to his old buddy Kevin O’Reilly of the White House national security staff, who he communicates with maybe three or four times a year… only to be exposed as a liar when the same document dump that put AG Holder in jeopardy of perjury charges revealed a constant stream of emails between Newell and O’Reilly, lasting over a month.
  • Operation Wide Receiver was, by all accounts, shut down after its weapons dropped off the grid, and the ATF realized it had blundered.  Operation Fast and Furious was only shut down because two of its weapons were discovered at the scene of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry’s murder.  According to congressional testimony, the Terry shooting – along with the mistaken suspicion that Tucson mass murderer Jared Loughner might have been packing a Fast and Furious gun – panicked top ATF brass into halting its gun walking operations.
  • The Obama Justice Department cobbled together significant inter-agency co-operation for its huge gun walking programs.  As Kurt Hofmann of the Gun Rights Examiner notes, “At this point, we don’t seem to have any evidence that earlier ‘gunwalking’ involved the FBI, the DEA, DHS, the State Department, the IRS, and even the White House Security Council.”
  • And, of course, there was no massive cover-up of Wide Receiver.  No senior Administration officials committed perjury to distance themselves from it.  The ATF was not exactly advertising the existence of the operation, or its unhappy conclusion, but that’s very different from the thick stone wall Obama and his people tried to build around their far larger and deadlier operations.

A confidential informant, Mike Detty who was a gun dealer in Operation Wide Receiver, specifically told David Codrea of the Gun Rights Examiner that the Bush administration was not involved in the gun walking program.  To me, that’s a moot point.  The truth of the matter remains that we know for a FACT that Eric Holder knew about OFF and lied to congress when asked about it.

The other part that I can’t quite get a handle on is the fact that ATF and the Obama Administration resurrected a FAILED operation, made it much, much bigger than the original, ran it again and turned it into an EPIC FAILURE.  Even with Bill Newell knowing that Operation Wide Receiver was a failure, he ran Operation Fast and Furious.  Strike up the band, I expect we will hear a new chorus of the “this is Bush’s fault” song.

The Green Jobs Promise: Hype or Hope?

I decided to do some research in the green jobs situation.  More specifically, I had recently heard a claim that we are training people to do jobs that don’t even exist.  Not willing to accept such an assertion at face value, I went looking for the truth.  I also wanted to take a look at green jobs in general.  Are they putting people to work?

I’d like to begin in Milwaukee where in January of 2010 the city received $1,075,000 in green job training money from the Department of Labor.  The grant was named The Pathways Out of Poverty and was targeted for those communities which have poverty rates of 15% or higher.  Later in December the city was given another $600,000 for the Milwaukee Area Workforce Funding Alliance.  As of April 2011, the unemployment rate in Milwaukee had dropped to 10.1% for a gain of $18,000 jobs.  However,  I could not find any statistics that correlated the increase in jobs to the green job training which I thought was a bit suspicious actually.  It seems to me that if these jobs were a direct result of the money spent from the grant there would be a lot of crowing about it.

Next, we travel to Philadelphia which was awarded a $3.2 million dollar grant specifically for The Community College of Philadelphia to train unemployed workers, ex-offenders and veterans.  The unemployment rate in July of 2010 was 9.1%.  The unemployment rate in July of 2011 was 8.9% for a net change of -.2%.  In other words, it’s statistically even, no change.  I did find an article in the The Inquirer out of Philadelphia which stated that in the city, one out of two people (aged 20 to 29) were out of work.  Additionally, those numbers bled over to those who have college degrees.   Not really the results we would like to see as taxpayers.

We have peeked at middle America and back East, now it is time to take a look at the West.  In 2010, Seattle received $20 Million dollars to invest in weatherization.  The announcement was made at the White House by Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn and Vice President Joe Biden with much flourish.  The goal was to create 2,000 jobs in Seattle while retrofitting 2,000 homes in the most poverty-stricken areas.  Unfortunately, as of August 2011, only 3 (three) homes have been retrofitted and a meager 14 new jobs have been added.  Of the 14 new jobs, most are administrative and not entry-level as promised.  “The jobs haven’t surfaced yet,” said Michael Woo, director of Got Green, a Seattle community organizing group focused on the environment and social justice.  “It’s been a very slow and tedious process. It’s almost painful, the number of meetings people have gone to. Those are the people who got jobs. There’s been no real investment for the broader public.”

Howard Greenwich, the policy director of Puget Sound Sage, an economic-justice group said, “Really, we couldn’t have rolled out this program at a worse time,” said Greenwich, who had helped write the city’s grant proposal. “The outcomes are very disappointing.”  As a taxpayer, that’s putting it mildly.  I would love to know where my money is.  Greenwich went on to say the energy retrofit market has turned out to be extremely complicated, with required hammering out of job standards, hiring practices, wages and how best to measure energy benefits.  In other words, no one did the research before funding the program.  This is becoming a recurrent theme with this administration.

I’m sure that you are now asking yourself where did the money go?  I had to dig for this information.  Verum Serum had a terrific article about where the money went.  Wait until you see where the bulk of the money went:

This is only a portion of the $500M total allocated by the stimulus bill for such purposes. Back in November an initial $55 million in grants were released, the bulk of which went to state-run job training programs, with relatively small amounts going to community job training programs.

However, the primary recipients of the latest $100M in grants are a little more noteworthy:

  • UAW Labor Employment and Training Corporation – $3,200,000
  • 1199SEIU Family of Funds (disguised as “HCAP, Inc.”) – $4,637,551
  • Utility Workers Union of America (UWUA), AFLCIO – $4,993,922
  • International Transportation Learning Center (whose board consists almost exclusively of union leaders) – $5,000,000
  • International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the National Electrical Contractors Association  – $5,000,000
  • Institute for Career Development (aka United Steelworkers) – $4,658,983
  • Blue Green Alliance (whose members consist largely of unions) – $5,000,000
  • Communications Workers of America – $3,969,056
  • Thomas Shortman Training Scholarship and Safety Fund (SEIU) – $2,802,269

Our Tax dollars went to unions.  Coincidentally (or not) the biggest fiscal supporters of Obama happen to be unions.  If you are trying to put unemployed people to work, the last place you want to put money is in the union coffers.  Union jobs are handed out by seniority and favoritism.  If you are a “newbie” you won’t be getting any jobs but will be drinking lots of stale coffee in the union halls hoping for the best.  Additionally, union scale wages are so disproportionately high it’s why so many vehicles are made out of country.  If you want to know why so many manufacturing jobs left the United States, take a look at the wages, the health care benefits and the bonuses of union shops and it will become abundantly clear.

Hype or Hope was my initial question.  There is considerably more hype than hope in these green jobs and in the training.  It is another Potemkin Village, a slick-looking veneer behind which there is no substance and certainly no jobs.  Frankly, there is not enough paint, cover-up or spin to make it look successful.  Just look around your neighborhood, see the businesses closing and the foreclosures rising.   All this green job nonsense is nothing more than smoke and mirrors.

Scandal Updates 10-3-11

Given the amount of scandals that we are following here at Coffee N Chat, I thought it would be a good idea to have a progress update every so often.  That should help us all stay on the same page.  For those who are reading just the updates, please see my previous blog entries for the full, unvarnished truth.

Emails released today prove conclusively that California investor and Obama fundraiser Steve Westly informed Obama senior advisor Valerie Jarrett to keep the President from visiting Solyndra.  Westly wrote to Jarrett and had this to say, ““A number of us are concerned that the president is visiting Solyndra.  “Many of us believe the company’s cost structure will make it difficult for them to survive long-term. . . . I just want to help protect the president from anything that could result in negative or unfair press.”  That was in May 2010 well before the company collapsed.  This would not be the biggest deal in the world if Obama didn’t give an interview with George Stephanopoulos this afternoon in which he said  “Now there are going to be some failures, hindsight is always 20/20,” the president added about being warned about Solyndra’s financial problems. “It went through the normal review process and people thought this was a good bet.” No Mr. President, they didn’t think it was a safe bet.

As I am watching the news right now, William La Jeunesse has just broken the story that Eric Holder- Department of Justice- has been identified with Operation Fast & Furious at least 5 months BEFORE he testified before congress.  During his testimony when he was asked how long he knew about O.F.F.  he said,”I have only heard of the program over the last few weeks.”  Now we have conclusive evidence of emails from Lanny Breuer to Eric Holder in July 2010 when he was informed that 1500 guns were supplied to the Mexican cartels through straw purchases and another email dated Oct 18, 2010 that prosecutors were ready to go ahead with indictments.   At this point, the DOJ is trying to tell us that Holder receives many emails a week and doesn’t read them all.  Perhaps the emails went missing because of the Bush administration, or maybe the Tsunami.  In litigation there is the common principle that ignorance is not excuse for the law and make no mistake, there were many laws broken in this case.  There is also a principle called “willful blindness” which means that you should have known and you could have asked, but you chose NOT to.  There is also the fifth grade excuse of the dog ate my homework.  I wonder which one of these, ignorance, willful blindness, or hungry canine applies here.

In two weeks the United Nations will give us their analysis of the Palestinian application.

A federal judge has dismissed one of two lawsuits regarding the right of citizenship for the descendants of black slaves.

U.S. District Judge Henry Kennedy in Washington ruled that a lawsuit brought by the slaves’ descendants alleging that about 2,800 freedmen were disenfranchised in violation of the 13th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and the Treaty of 1866 could not proceed because the tribe was not a defendant in the case and couldn’t be compelled to abide by the court’s ruling.

The other lawsuit which the Cherokee Nation had against another group of Freedmen was transferred back to the federal court in Tulsa at its initial filling.  The argument there was that federal statutes modified the 1866 treaty to the extent that it no longer gave the Freedman rights to citizenship.

Both are wins for the Cherokee Nation.

The U.N. Farce

I am not what you would call a big supporter of the United Nations being in the United States.   In the first place, it gives our enemies the chance to come into our country and saber-rattle, like Ahmadinejad.  Or in the case of Qaddafi, he prattled on in some sort of stream of consciousness that made no sense whatsoever.  It was a waste of time.  Additionally, we then let Ahmadinejad deliver a speech at Columbia University which was more anti-western, anti-Zion nonsense.

Giving further credence to the argument of removal of the United Nations from the States is the upcoming plea by Palestinian Organizer Mahmoud Abbas for Palestinian Statehood.   Once again, we have a violent, anti-western, anti-Zion leader in the States.  The Palestinians are very good at making a case for being victims.  They go out of their way to show Israel as the aggressor.  But, we really need to look at some facts to find the real truth.

In a recent newspaper article by the Huffington Post, Abbas had the gall to say, “We will never return to an intifada (uprising). We will never return to violence,” Abbas said. “All our people will do is demonstrate peacefully inside the (Palestinian) cities.”  I guess he means that AFTER he speaks to the United Nations peace will descend upon that area because in fact:

  • August 18, 2011 — A series of attacks targeted civilians and soldiers in southern Israel, killing eight people and wounding at least 31. Terrorists from Gaza infiltrated Israel via the border with Egypt, fired on a civilian buses and vehicles, detonated explosives when soldiers arrived on the scene of the attack, and then launched mortar shells at soldiers along the Israeli-Egyptian border.
  • Palestinians terrorists fired 17 rockets and several mortars at Israel.
  • August 20 – – As Hamas announced it would renew attacks on Israelis, Palestinians fired 64 rockets at Israel.
  • August 26 – -At about 3 pm, Palestinians fired a Grad rocket at Ashkelon, despite a ceasefire announced by Palestinian Islamic Jihad the previous day. Shortly after 10 pm, two Qassam rockets were fired at the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council. No injuries were reported in either incident. The leftist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsibility for two attacks on Ashkelon.
  • August 28, 2011 — Eight people were wounded when a Palestinian man from Nablus attacked a Tel Aviv nightclub. The terrorist hijacked a taxi in Jaffa and rammed into an Israel Border Police checkpoint that had been set up to protect the event of over 2,000 people. He then jumped out of the taxi, shouted “Allahu Akhbar” and began stabbing bystanders and police.

Furthermore, these are not the end of attacks, they continued just about everyday for the rest of the month and into September.  If this is what Abbas considers peaceful demonstration, I would hate to see what a “return to violence” would look like.  It’s also very key to remember that the United States uses YOUR tax dollars to give the Palestinians $500 Million dollars in economic assistance.  Personally, I think we are funding their bombs and aid should be cut off immediately.  If Saudi Arabia is so concerned about their plight, they should be funding them.  They certainly have the money to do so in style as does Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Make no mistake about it, Israel is the only democracy in the region.  Israel is also our only friend and ally in the region.  So, let’s take a look at some very important statistics regarding Israel:

  • While Jews are not permitted to live in many Arab countries, Arabs are granted full citizenship and have the right to vote in Israel. Arabs are also free to become members of the Israeli parliament (the Knesset). In fact, several Arabs have been democratically elected to the Knesset and have been serving there for years. Arabs living in Israel have more rights and are freer than most Arabs living in Arab countries.
  • Despite claims that the Israeli settlements in the West Bank are the obstacle to peace, Jews lived there for centuries before being massacred or driven out by invading Arab armies in 1948-49. And contrary to common mis-perceptions, Israeli settlements—which constitute less than two percent of the territories—almost never displace Palestinians.
  • The area of the West Bank includes some of the most important sites in Jewish history, among them Hebron, Bethlehem, and Jericho. East Jerusalem, often cited as an “Arab city” or “occupied territory,” is the site of Judaism’s holiest monument. While under Arab rule (1948-67), this area was entirely closed to Jews. Since Israel took control, it has been open to people of all faiths.
  • Israel is the only country in the region that permits citizens of all faiths to worship freely and openly. Twenty percent of Israeli citizens are not Jewish.

The only successful path to Palestinian Statehood is to negotiate with Israel.  To be sure, as long as bombs are falling on Israel she is not interested in discussing border lines nor negotiating peace.  You wouldn’t reward an impertinent child by giving in to its bad behaviour, so why would there be an expectation that Israel should give in when their lives are involved.  If the Palestinians truly wish to discuss Statehood and lasting peace, then they would be better served by acting peaceful and putting an end to the violence that is truly what is holding them back.

On top of this pesky Solyndra situation (turning into a scandal) we are now finding out just how much of our money has been flushed down the drain on risky businesses.  This huge push for green jobs has created a pickle of a problem for the Obama administration.  The rush to make something happen quickly has taken our tax dollars, straight from our paychecks, and put them into businesses that are all belly up now.  We know Solyndra has cost us $550 Million dollars and put 1,100 employees out of work.  I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are at least 4 more now that have received funds and declared bankruptcy.  Let’s see what else we have lost.

  • Evergreen Solar Inc., received $5.3 million through a state grant to open a $450 million facility in 2007.  It employed 800 people.  The company couldn’t compete with China and has moved its operations to China.
  • SpectraWatt,  received a $500,000 grant from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory as part of the stimulus package.   The company filed for bankruptcy last month also blaming China.
  • Mountain Plaza, Inc., received $424,000 in stimulus to install a truck stop electrification system which allowed idling truckers to plug-in instead of keeping their “exhaust-belching, environment polluting diesel engines running.  Interesting, the company did declare bankruptcy in 2003.  However, it had to refile bankruptcy in June 2010.
  • Olsen’s Crop Service and Olsen’s Mills Acquisition Co., were given $10 million in funding.  Oddly enough, the $10 million was awarded AFTER the company had defaulted on a bank loan of $60 million.

Despite assurances by Jay Carney today, that due diligence is being followed with these companies, the results we are seeing is saying the exact opposite.  I have spent the majority of my life in business and I’m sickened by what I am seeing.  This is the worst case scenario of throwing good money after bad.  This is the danger of electing to high office an individual who has never held a job in the private sector.  They have the book smarts to be sure, but lack the experience to see how a business really operates.  And to hold the office of the President is a really bad time to learn business experience by flying by the seat of your pants.  It’s also a horrible time to put into practice the different theories you learned about in Economics 400 at your college.

As if all that wasn’t frustrating enough, to come to the American people and tell them you want another $447 Billion dollars to pump into stimulus takes some real gall.  Past is prelude dear taxpayer and this administration has conclusively shown that they know NOTHING about business nor do they know what is or what is not a good investment.  So, why in the world would we trust them with another HUGE sum of money.  Look at your paychecks, see the taxes they are taking out, and re-read about those businesses they invested in.  Imagine if YOU had that money in your pocket what you could do with it.  I strongly feel you would not throw it away on some business that can’t even compete in this country or in a business that has already declared bankruptcy once.

Solyndra- The Whistleblower

As with any great scandal, there is always somebody somewhere who knows the truth and is just waiting for the right moment to confess what they know.  This appears to be the case with the building  Solyndra Situation.  It’s not quite a scandal yet, so we’ll call it a situation.

The anonymous whistle-blower, chose The Mark Levin show http://www.marklevinshow.com as her confessional.  I just so happened to be in my car at the time and caught her telephone call.  Interestingly, after she gave her truth, the next day the FBI raided Solyndra.  This is a direct quote from her phone call:

“While we were out there, while we were building it – cause it is a half a billion dollar plant – everyone already knew that China had developed a more inexpensive way to manufacture these solar panels. Everyone knew that the plant wouldn’t work. But they still did it. They still built it.”

Levin asked her if the Obama Administration knew that it was not feasible and she said, “Oh absolutely, I was not high on the totem pole at all and even someone like me knew that and we were just breaking ground.”  This tells me that it was fraud from the very beginning.  She elaborated that the facility was state of the art and they were installing brand new equipment up to the week they closed.  No one was given a warning of the closing and suddenly 1,100 people were laid off and their health care canceled immediately.

I decided it was time to dig a little deeper and follow the money.  Turns out that the employees of Solyndra donated quite a bit of their cash to the Obama Campaign.  Additionally, Ben Bierman, the Executive Vice President of Engineering was one of the larger contributors.  As we follow the money some more it’s come to light that billionaire George Kaiser, a large contributor to Obama’s campaign, was also the largest backer of Solyndra.   Kaiser gave Obama somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000 for the 2008 campaign.  Kaiser has also been a frequent visitor to the White House logging some 16 visits before the $535 Million was awarded.  In his defense, Kaiser said they didn’t talk about Solyndra.  Really?!

As this situation is gaining traction and momentum, the White House decided it was time to field some questions.  So, they sent out White House Press Secretary Jay Carney to answer the questions.  Someone should have better prepped him.  Carney held steadfast to the talking point that the White House didn’t rush the review of loan guarantees and he also said that we have all misunderstood those pesky emails we talked about yesterday because they were about “scheduling decisions.”

“What the emails make clear is there was urgency to make a decision on a scheduling matter,” Carney told a group of reporters on Air Force One. “It is a big proposition to move the president or to put on an event and that sort of thing, so people were simply looking for answers about whether or not people could move forward. … It had nothing to — and there is no evidence to the contrary — nothing to do with anything besides the need to get an answer to make a scheduling decision.”

Thanks to NBC, we already know those emails were much more damaging.  One email from an OMB staffer said,”We have ended up with a situation of having to do rushed approvals on a couple of occasions (and we are worried about Solyndra at the end of the week).  We would prefer to have sufficient time to do our due diligence reviews and have the approval set the date for the announcement rather than the other way around.”

At the hearings today, Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.), chairman of the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee, placed blame for the Solyndra Situation on the shoulders of the Obama administration.“The Obama administration has repeatedly touted its green energy plan as the savior of our faltering economy,” Stearns said in an opening statement. He added, “Only after the Obama administration took control and the stimulus passed was the Solyndra deal pushed through.”

Yesterday, I told you all that I was sick and tired of this deflection of blame always to the Bush administration.  Well, in the committee meeting today it came out that the Energy Department  under the Bush administration was using the proper protocol and was working on the due diligence process and had not recommended the loan guarantee until 2009 AFTER the due diligence was completed.  Additionally media outlets are now reporting that the Energy Department’s credit committee rejected the loan guarantee outright so that it could be reviewed and approved by Obama’s administration.

As things are unfolding, it’s becoming much more likely that we have a scandal on our hands.  And telling the American people that this is somehow Bush’s fault won’t cut it this time.  Clearly, whatever happened with Solyndra lies at the feet of Obama and the White House.  As for Jay Carney’s little circus show today I only have one thing to say-  Don’t pee on my leg and tell me it’s raining.
